FaSol is an app where your goal is to sing intervals relative to the tonic. You sing notes one by one and the app detects (via the device microphone) whether the pitch is in correct range.
While the app can be used to train your voice, It is primarily designed for anyone who would like to train their ear. The idea is that intervals in different keys sound the same (have the same feeling, "character") indepenent of the specific tonic, because they have shared functionality and basically play the same role. For example, note D relative to the tonic of C sounds the same as G when the tonic is F, because they both form the same interval (major 2nd).
So rather than pursuing perfect pitch (ability so identify notes in vacuum, without any reference), it is much more important for musicians to be able to recognize intervals. And the best way to do this is considered to be singing them - it helps internalize intervals and after some practice feel them intuitively. Which is exactly what this app allows you to do!
You can also:
- Customize game parameters - select what note will be the tonic; choose between creating interval sequence manually or generating it randomly; decide whether to repeat mistaken note until it's correct; tweak note and rest duration, and more
- Create levels with different game parameters to help you better organize your training; some levels are already generated by default, but you are free to edit them or create your own levels
- View comprehensive stats to track your progress and see which tonic or which intervals migh need more work
